Mac users often say, “It feels different.”

Visually? Yes.

Structurally? Not really.

At the top level of your Mac is:

Macintosh HD

Inside it are system folders — and one important folder:

Users

Inside Users is your account.

Inside your account is your Home folder.

That’s your safe space.

Inside you’ll see:

  • Desktop
  • Documents
  • Downloads
  • Pictures
  • Movies
  • Music

Sound familiar?

Mac works very similarly to Windows. It just hides more of the technical stuff so you don’t accidentally damage it.

You may see the symbol:

~/

That just means “your Home folder.”

Mac also has a hidden Library folder that stores app settings and preferences. Most people never need to touch it — and that’s a good thing.

Core principle:

Stay inside your Home folder, and you won’t break anything.
