Hi,

I caught myself doing it this week.

Clicking through folders…
Backing out…
Trying another one…
Thinking “I know it’s here somewhere…”

And I’ve been doing this for over 30 years.

So if you’ve ever felt a little frustrated trying to find a file… you’re in good company. We all do it.

That’s what this week’s posts were about.

Not some big system. Not a complete reorganization.

Just a small shift that makes your computer feel a lot easier to use.

I walked through it using a simple, real-world example — someone just trying to find their files — and how a few small changes completely changed the experience.

If there’s one idea that stuck with me (even after all these years), it’s this:

Most of us try to organize our computers so we can browse them.

But they’re actually designed so we can search.

And once you lean into that… things just get easier.

This is one of those “small friction” problems.

Nothing is broken.
Nothing is wrong.

But it slows you down, over and over again.

Fixing it isn’t dramatic—but it’s noticeable.

If you’ve got a few minutes this weekend, I’d start with the first post and just follow the flow through the week. It builds in a way that makes the whole thing click.

And if your computer still feels a little messy or frustrating after that…

That’s exactly the kind of thing I help with every day.

– Mike

P.S. Try this for the next couple of days: before you click into a folder, use search first. It feels like a small change—but it adds up fast.

Where is that file?

A small shift in how you find files can make your computer feel a lot easier to use—no complicated system required.
