PCRescue Kit is open to everyone today.

It has been out a week with members and the early access list. Nothing broke. So here it is.

You open it and it tells you about your computer. Drive health, memory, free space, whether the machine is in real trouble or just cluttered. There is a Diagnose button. Press it and it gives you a quick overview of potential problems.

Then there are the fixes. Over seventy, in four groups: Fix It, Speed It Up, Secure It, Network. Every one shows you the command before it runs it. Not a description of the command. The command.

Over thirty fixes are free and stay free. No trial clock, no nag at day fifteen, no red banner announcing 1,247 problems on a computer that has none.

The rest unlock for $49. Once. It is yours after that, and updates keep coming.

Members already have it. A paid PCRescue Membership includes the Kit, so do not buy it twice.

Windows may warn you when you download it

It probably will, and I would rather you hear it from me first.

If you download it in Edge on a machine with SmartScreen turned on, Windows may say it does not trust the file. Chrome and Firefox have been letting it through fine.

Here is what that warning actually means. Windows keeps a running count of how many people have downloaded a given program. New programs have a low count. Low count means unknown, and unknown gets a warning. It is not a virus scan. It is a popularity check, and the download link is a week old.

The file is signed by PCRescue Labs LLC. You can see that yourself: right click the installer, Properties, Digital Signatures tab. The name should be there.

If you get the warning and want to continue, click More info, then Run anyway. Or, use Chrome or Firefox, or wait a few weeks and it will clear on its own as the download count climbs.

I am aware of the irony. I write about scareware, and my own installer trips a warning box. The difference is I am telling you what the box means instead of hoping you click through it.

A Mac version is coming. It is not ready yet and I am not ready to name a date I am not sure of. If you are on a Mac, sign up anyway and I will tell you the day it lands.
